How to Use This Stencil
To get the best results with this The Pumpkin Lady stencil, we recommend printing the PDF and taping it securely to your pumpkin. Use a poking tool or a toothpick to trace the lines by poking small holes through the paper into the pumpkin skin.
Pro Carving Tips
- The Inside-Out Rule: Always start carving with the smallest details first, moving from the center of the design outward. This keeps the pumpkin wall strong while you work.
- Shave, Don’t Saw: For thin lines, gently shave away the pumpkin skin rather than sawing all the way through to add depth and “shading” to your glow.
- Reinforcement: If a piece of your design feels “wobbly,” you can reinforce the back of the carving area with a bit of clear packing tape or a toothpick.
Carver’s Checklist
- Skill Level: Varies by design (Intermediate is typical).
- Estimated Time: 30–60 minutes. Portraits and advanced patterns can take considerably longer.
- Tools Needed: Poking tool, small safety-serrated pumpkin saw, and a bright LED.
- Safety First: Always supervise children and carve in a well-lit area.
